How do I transfer my domain away to a new registrar?

This page explains how to transfer your domain registration away to another registration provider. If you plan to cancel your website service, be sure to transfer your domain before canceling. Please note that transferring your domain registration does not automatically cancel your website service.

When you're ready to transfer your domain:

  1. Verify that at least 60 days have passed since you registered or last transferred your domain

In accordance with ICANN policies, you cannot transfer a domain between registration providers until 60 days after you registered or last transferred the domain.

  2. Check your contact email address

Your new provider will send you a transfer verification email. If you can't receive the verification email, you won't be able to complete the transfer. Be sure to update your contact email address.

  3. Request your Transfer Authorization Code

Contact us to request your Transfer Authorization EPP Code. You will need to give that code to your new registration provider.

  4. Contact your new provider

Contact your new registration provider to initiate the transfer process. You will need to give them the Transfer Authorization EPP Code.

  5. Confirm that your transfer has completed

Domain transfers may take up to 10 days to complete. You can confirm the success of the transfer with your new provider.

  6. Cancel your website service

Once your transfer is complete, you may wish cancel your website service. Please note that transferring your domain does not automatically cancel your website service.

Note: Some hosting providers do not accept domain transfers. If you are using this kind of provider, you can transfer your domain to a stand-alone registrar.
